    Ray Wins!

So as Ray left the ice, what did he have to say for himself...

"Champion! I'm so happy I can't even tell you. I can't believe it, me and Maria did it."

...at this point Pavel runs up and lifts Ray above his head (like Johnny flings Baby in Dirty Dancing), Ray squeals with joy! He was so poised, he could pull off a tabletop lift himself!

    He lands...

"We worked so hard putting the hours in ...and to walk away with this is the cherry on the top. That silence felt like a lifetime.
I was just stood on the ice holding Maria and I can't tell you how scared I was. I felt more sick then than when I was flying.. When they said my name, words can't describe how I felt at that exact moment, then I just felt Maria fall to pieces in my arms.."

    Visit ITV for more...

Do you think Ray worked for his title?
...or maybe another skater was more deserving?
Should it be about the talent or the journey?

I thought it was a real homage to the Torvill & Dean version and as always with Jessica's routines, it was delicate and beautifully executed.

Live Blog - The Grand Final!

    SHOW STARTS:

Who should win Dancing On Ice 2009?
Click 'add a comment' below to leave your views...

I'm crossing my fingers that Torvill and Dean perform the closest thing to 'the real' Bolero this year. Each time they provide a glorious homage to their Olympic routine, but I'm hoping to feel the magic tonight. Come on guys, please... I really want to see those tuck twists! Chris has always said they're too old now to do them, but I think they're in the best shape ever... I mean Jayne looks slimmer now than she was back then. I'm hoping that the obvious improvement in both of their physiques is because they're planning to do the monty.

Here we go... Jayne & Chris perform Bolero.

YES, YES, YES - They even did the tuck twists!
    How bloody marvelous was that?!
    Love, love, loved it!
What a fantastic performance. Chris Dean admits he felt emotional at the end and I'm not surprised... "Doing it again like that 25 years on, I've got a lump in my throat."

Tonight's required element is Flying (obviously). Each skater must make smooth transitions from ice to air and back again. It must look effortless at all times, even when they're spinning 360 degrees - Good luck with that, that's all I can say!

To be honest, I'd be papping it. Those wires run via computer you know? Once they start, there's no stopping them and if you miss your cue then you're being dragged about on the ice by cheesewire - God help you if you're upside down or doing the splits at the time. Ouch!

    THE PERFORMANCES: FLYING

The ice panel are introduced and Head Judge Robin Cousins says he hopes that the skaters will prove themselves tonight.

First up to skate is Donal and his flying training is hilarious. "I'm a beer drinking, pizza eating, rugby watching kinda guy - Being graceful is difficult." He's not kidding, Chris Dean giggles and says it's like he's Irish dancing. Donal admits, "It's grace and beauty that counts andyou want to be an eagle, but I'm a bit of a Dodo on the ice."

Fortunately that was at the start of the week and there's been much improvement. The pair perform to Rocketman and Donal is far betterthan I ever thought possible. WOW! He poses well, leg lines are good (though a little stiff in the arms), there are two back somersaults, a handstand and a travelling trapeze. Donal says he's found the flyer within and Florie is so proud of him, "He was like Peter Pan." I loved the handstand with Florie performing a slow-motion run beneath - Gorgeous!

23.5 Ruthie gives a 6 and Jason a 3? How can they be so opposite?

Ruthie gushes, "I'm getting a real hard time here but I never thought you would be that graceful". Jason Gardiner is disgusted, "Well we all know how Ruthie likes to dish out a 6! I just don't agree with you, I thought it was lazy and sluggish - stiff. I didn't feel like you were flying, it felt like you were underwater." The crowd boo and Jason can no longer be heard...

Judge Robin Cousins sides with Ruthie (he gave a 5). "I have to agree with Ruthie, I wasn't expecting you to be that graceful. I've seen a lot of men fly and you're probably the best man I've seen on the show". Jason is the first to interupt.. "It's not over yet..." I think he's refering to Ray's upcoming performance.

Jessica is up next and she's struggled with the flying as she's afraid of heights. Fortunately she managed to acclimatise herself quickly and is into the swing by the end of day 1. When she hears the music Chris has chosen for her she bursts into tears... "I'm just imagining flying to one of the best songs in the world. What's up with me today?"

Pavel and Jess perform to One Moment In Time and it's a truly beautiful routine - Very touching. There's a cloud-walk, three somersaults and a footspin (which launches her up into the air!) - She's a picture in white and silver...

25.5 points. The judges all agree that it was a beautiful performance. Karen says, "Your transfer from the ice to the air was effortless." Ruthie is overwhelmed by Jessica's grace, but Jason still feels the need to give her pointers about her hands when flying? Leave it out Jason, it's the final - It's not up to you now! Fortunately he adds that she looked beautiful up there, just before the crowd shout him down...

Ray performs to Greatest Day by Take That and all I can say is, it's an absolutely fabulous performance. You would never think that the flying makes him sick (which it does) and he's had less rehearsal time than the others because of it.

There's a running man, a back somersault, a glorious flying embrace with Maria, a hand drag and then the final flyaway-moment. Amazing! He has lovely posture on the wires and great lines... Sixes across the board and he deserves every one for that - It was like it was in slow motion - amazing!

Ruthie says he's a triple threat, "you can sing, dance and skate!" Nicky says that it was a top-notch performance and his transitions on the ice were phenomenal. "Ray Quinn, bring it on - Maria that was beautiful. Fantastic control... Transitions from air to ice were perfect. The focus and relationship between the two of you just had me enthralled. It was a 6 performance Ray and I'm not surprised!" Ruthie smiles, "It was poetry in motion. You have the IT factor which is something you cannot teach anybody - You are a star!"

Ray is overjoyed when the scores come in and I think if he could jump as high as those wires take him, he would! "That's fantastic, but when I said I felt sick - You nearly all got it then!"

Phil Schofield points out that he had to be 'really poorly' to look so pale through the fake tan. I though he looked almost green in training - It wasn't pretty!

    THE PERFORMANCES: SKATERS FAVOURITE

Donal says that after taking part in Dancing On Ice he's got a new found respect for dance. He says that Florentine is a great person and she's been a real rock for him. He feels that Everybody Hurts was his favourite performance, "as that's when I really felt the song and got lost in the dance. I want my last skate to be my best skate so I can make my kids and my beautiful wife proud of me." It sounds as though Donal thinks this will be it for him... I'm not so sure you know.

The pair perform to REM's heart-wrenching track and it is truly beautiful to watch. Donal chose well here, there's no need for him to act when he can feel... There's a layout, a spiral, some gorgeous emotive choreography and a shoulder lift into back crucifix (with cartwheel dismount) - The end is so touching...

The scores reflect the performance, 25.5 - His best so far.

Donal is pleased, "It's been such a special journey with Florentine. I have a real respect for choreography (even from the world of Jason), we've took what he said onboard and worked hard - We've tried out best."

Judge Karen Barber has obviously connected with Donal... "Donal, you're what this show is all about - The celebrity that can't skate and the journey that follows... Who would have predicted yur journey." Ruthie can't believe the difference between his first REM performance and now. "That was beautiful. You have such a lovely heart Donal and it shines through..." So True!

OH NO! I'm gutted that Jessica has chosen Mercy and not Venus as her favourite performance! I thought her Venus routine had everything and was a real turning point fo her. It had so much more umph than this... She feels that she nailed Mercy last time around, but I didn't like it. I just thought it had no personality.

    26 points.

Don't get me wrong, there's a fabulous candle lift, jump sequence and tabletop (as before), but I have to agree with Jason - "There's no wow factor." Judge Nicky thought she'd improved from last time and her partnership with Pav was better. I'm not convinced... If I was choosing between her and Donal based on both performances, I'd choose Donal.

Jessica's enjoying it though. "It means the world to me to get into the final. I'm having the time of my life, brilliant!"

Oooh, could we have another 30 pointer?

Ray Quinn has chosen Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now as his favourite performance and last time he pulled 6's across the board - It looked no different to me, so I guess there's a chance. There's a full drape, solo spin, arabesque... The list goes on and on...

    6'S EVERYWHERE! 30 POINTS!

Ray and Maria are overwhelmed and they both say how much they love each other...

Robin Cousins is a ball of excitement, "Absolutely amazing! I like to see these again because you get a more confident performance. Donal took it to the next level, where as you add little nuances - like a shoulder shrug... There were so many moments... I disagree with Ruthie, you're not a triple threat, you're a quadruple threat. As far as I'm concerned you can add professional ice skater to your resume." WOW! Talk about a compliment from the Olympic gold medalist.

It was an amazing performance. I have a funny feeling we could have two boys in the final you know... Mercy could have ruined Jessica's chances.

Lines will close after this ad break. The final two will be decided and then the lines re-open so you guys can vote for the winner. Who will skate Bolero?

Click 'add a comment' below to leave your views...

    THE FINAL TWO:

I hate this part, all three couples have created their own Bolero and are dressin their Bolero outfit - It's such a shame that one of them won't be able to perform.

    Through to Bolero are:

    Ray & Maria
    and...
    Donal & Florentine!

    I knew it!
She should have skated to Venus.

Poor Jessica is in tears, she was obviously hoping to perform Bolero and it's heartbreaking. Just to add insult to injury they now have to watch their best bits...

Phil Schofield begs her not to cry. "It means such a great deal to me to be part of such a brilliant show. I feel like I'm a performer now, it's really brought me out of my shell... I've loved every minute of it. I did just really want to do that for my Mum on Mother's Day..."

Pavel agrees that it's such a shame they won't get to dance the Bolero tonight. "We both just really love it, but we will be on the tour and we WILL do it on the tour!"

Donal and Ray will now skate Bolero. All previous votes are wiped and we start from scratch again (as the lines re-open). Get voting for your winner Joe...

Donal is up first and he really wants to do the Bolero justice. As he watches the footage of Jayne and Chris in training he can't believe how beautiful their routine is. When they move onto the ice, the pair decide to try a new lift and hope to use it. Chris says they can include the spiral lift as the only rules are, that they have to start on their knees and end in the Bolero pose - flat out on the ice.

Donal and Florentine perform and it's a fabulous end to a wonderful journey. There's a swan spiral lift, hood balance pose and a hydraglide, to name but a few and his place in the final is well deserved.

Phil Scholfield suggests that Donal had written himself of earlier and Donal nods, he's overjoyed to be in the final. Instead of gushing about himself though, he suggests that the wonderful Torvill and Dean deserve knighthoods - Here, here!

Robin Cousins praises Donal and enjoyed the Bolero. "It was controlled and reserved, it didn't necessarily have the passion but it was focused."

Now it's time for our Ray of Sunshine...

Ray can't wait to have a go at the Bolero, but is worried that he's gone from learning a routine to choreographing one. He's also keen to try out the split swapover that Chris performed himself at the Olympics but is concerned that he may not pull it of on the night...

    Watching...

Ray and Maria interpreted that so well. There was just enough Torvill and Dean mixed with their partnering, passion and warmth. There was a devlappe, a fantastic interlocking stag roll and the splits swapover (which was perfect).

Phil asked if he was surprised to dance Bolero. "Anything could have happened as nothing was certain, but the fact that I got to do that with a partner like Maria - Well it was an absolute privilege."

Chris Dean agrees with Phil that Donal has come a long way, "But I got a lump in my throat when I performed my Bolero and I just got another one then (during Ray's performance)."

Judge Nicky Slater is choked... He can barely speak he's so emotional. "I see you performing Jayne and Chris's choreography softly and gently like they did [before my eyes] - It blows me away." GO ON RAY!!! Sorry Donal fans, what can I say?

Bless... There's a short break and the eliminated celebs return to skate once more. D'you know, it's only when you watch the ousted skaters that you appreciate how good the finalists really are. I loved seeing Todd back and was happy that Colleen performed I'm In The Mood again, it's a classic!

    Lines are now closed.

After watching their best bits, the two remaining finalists are brought together on the ice. It's result time...

The Dancing On Ice Champion 2009 is...

RAY QUINN! GET IN YOU BEAUTY!

"I am absolutely speechless, I've been dreaming of this moment since the beginning and I'm so pleased we did it together." Maria can't stop hugging him and nods that it's a wonderful Mother's Day present.

It's commiserations for Donal and Florentine... Then again, from Donal's face I think he had a feeling it would be Ray - Both he and Florie are smiling and applauding.

In a rather rushed ending, Ray and Maria are presented with their trophy and the credits roll. I guess that's it till next year guys...

    What a great show!

Donal Isn't In It To Win It!

So regardless of making the final, it seems that Donal MacIntyre doesn't want to win Dancing On Ice!

During ITV's press conference he said, "I don't want to win. That's not my journey... for Ray and Jessica I think it probably is they want to win... For me it is only about enjoying the ride... I shouldn't be here. My motivation to be in the final is to be the best I can be - Trying to win is something that's outside your control."

In a shocking twist, he's also changed his mind about the final dance. He insisted last week that he "wanted to dance bolero", but it seems that's no longer the case...

"If I don't get to do the bolero I won't be too disappointed. It requires me to throw myself on my bruised bum and hip at speed, in that classic ending." I guess that's a fair - I mean did you see that bruise last week? Ouch!

I'm not sure if it's reason enough to bail on the final though... Maybe he's starting to think he's destined to be third.

    Fountain's Faux Pas?

I'm wondering if Chris Fountain has made a huge mistake, throwing down the gauntlet to Ray Quinn...

    Chris Fountain - Rex Features/ITV

I absolutely loved his spunk and vivaciousness last year and thought that he and Frankie had the best partnership.
Unfortunately by the time the final came around, visitors here thought it had all gone to his head... and it just wasn't pretty.
To be honest, I think that's why he lost the public vote. I found it all very strange as he was so humble all the way through? Such a shame, especially when so many of his routines were sensational - Remember Cry Me A River and The Timewarp?

    Anyway... Back to our Ray.
(I was born & bred in Liverpool, so I'm allowed to say that)

According to The Star, Chris Fountain has been keeping his eye on this year's celebrity skaters. He said, "Ray's very good, but the battle is on. Hopefully I'll be the overall winner at the end."

...Wanna know what I think about that?
    Tosh! Complete and utter tosh!

If you ask me, Ray Quinn is the closest we have ever had to a professional skater on Dancing On Ice and he could skate circles around ANY of the celeb skaters - Period!

I mean seriously, I have no doubt that the banter from various skaters is just to promote the Dancing On Ice Tour (and it's working), but isn't it a bit much to be giving it 'all that' (makes talky-talky motion with hand). This is a fun show and a light-hearted tour, the viewers come to see the skating and the stars on the tour - not a winner or a loser. If anything they just want to see their favouite or the winner of this year's series and that's going to be Ray Quinn!

Don't just take my word for it, Judge Jason Gardiner thinks Ray's going all the way. He told The Sun, "I think Ray Quinn is amazing. The boy is unstoppable. He goes out there and he gives such an amazing performance, technically he's leagues above anyone else in the competition."

    How's that Fountain? Eh? Eh?
    You talkin' to me?

...Sorry all this fighting talk's given me a touch of the Tysons!

Joking aside, I'm sure Chris means no harm by saying "the battle's on" but it just invites people like me to point out that Ray's in a different league. I know Chris has been back in training and he may have even perfected his Axel, but Ray's not just a trickster - He's a dancer, an entertainer and he's skated into our hearts. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if Ray executes an Axel (or something just as impressive) during the grand final - Now wouldn't that be game on?

...Then again, it's not like he has to prove himself.
    He's done that already.

    Ray Quinn and Maria Filippov

    Ray Quinn and Maria Filippov

Ray's a sweety, full stop and it doesn't bode well to challenge our little scouse knight in shining armour...

So let me don my curly wig, tilt my arms, stick on my fake tash and say... "Chris Fountain - Calm Down, Calm Down!"

    More soon...

Live Blog - The Semi Finals

    Who should leave tonight?
Click 'add a comment' to give your views...
(Press F5 during the Live Blog to refresh)

    SHOW STARTS:

Wow! What a fantastic start to the show. Girls Aloud are lowered from the rafters and they look just like Greek Goddesses as they land gracefully on five aligned plinths. They perform their latet single and Jayne and Chris present us once more with an ice dance to remember. Jayne is wired and as the music ends she flies into the air with Chris spinning beneath - Chris is the highest he's ever been without a harness and Jayne flips upside down mid-flight to complete the program!

Tonight's required element is a Solo Spot and each celebrity skater must leave the tunnel, take their place on the ice and dance for 20 seconds ALONE. If their knees were trembling to start with, imagine how they'll be when unsupported. Head Judge Robin Cousins is looking for a skate that's assured and confident. "The need to look like a star and act like a finalist."

The skaters and judges give their predictions for the final. Nicky Slater wonders if Colleen can make it and says, "anything is possible." Donal describes Colleen as inspirational. Jason Gardiner says he was "gobsmacked" by Ray from the moment he saw him skate and Donal describes him as "a God! He's out on his own.." Colleen predicts that it will be Donal, Jessica and Ray in the final and Ray reveals that he thinks a lot of Jess... "She's great, she's so confident and talented".

    Here we go!

Donal is up first and he describes the solo spot as "the most terrifying thing I've ever done on the ice". He's used to having Florentine there to take care of him and is terribly nervous, "It's a slow solo which becomes very fast". He's hoping to pull it off though, "To make it to the final would be the best thing, a real dream come true for me!"

    Donal MacIntyre and Florentine Houdineirre

He performs to one of my favourite songs, Live & Let Die and the solo is confident and tricky (with a little trip but nobody noticed). He manages a hydraglide and 3 three-jumps alone, which is good going. A great deal of balance is needed for those tricks and he's still smiling - When Florie joins him, the final roll-up into the stag-crucifix is sensational!

The judges give two 5's and a total of 22.5

Florentine reveals that Donal skated alone for 45 seconds, not 20.

Jason awarded just 3.5 and tries to say that Donal's solo skate highlighted his flaws, "Your partnership hides a multitude of sins. Your arms were like a flappy gorilla tonight - Absolutely no flex!" Ruthie gave a 5 and interupts when Donal looks dejected, "Donal, you have come so far. You are a worthy finalist!" Phillip Schofield agrees and Jason's comments are brushed off...

I agree with Ruthie - That was a great solo skate from Donal and he looked confident too, the nerves weren't visible. Robin made a good point as the faster parts were a little rough and ready, but hey... Are we looking for perfection?

Mmmm... Speaking of perfection, here's Ray Quinn.

Ray loves his routine this week as he's been a latin and ballroom dancer for most of his life. Jayne and Chris have given him a latin number and he's so chuffed to meet with a flamenco expert and have some one on one training. He's hoping that he and Maria can bring his love of latin to the ice.

They perform to Bailamos and are we in Spain or is it just me?
There's more latin love than you can shake a stick at - IT'S HOT!
Holy hip action! Did you see that for flamenco?
I think I need a cold shower... Phwoar!

    Ray Quinn and Maria Filippov

There are repeated drag and leaps, a matador leap (which I want to see again - loved it!) and a wrist ripper for good measure. Bring on the bull and let's go to town on that bad boy!

    28 points in all.
5.5's across the board and a 6 from Nicky.

Nicky gushes, "It was awesome, you had the feel of the dance from the off. I look at you as if you are a top ice dancer - Just awesome! You are so much higher up than anyone else". Trainer and judge Karen Barber agrees it was fantastic, "but it wasn't perfect. There were a few little mistakes, next time it will be perfect".

I think if he hadn't had to skate alone at the start, he'd have aced that performance. It was like he was concentrating on the moves and not letting go completely. I would have liked him to nail it as he obviously loved it so much. "That was my favourite performance so far..."

The annoying thing for me was the wrist ripper. In shows gone by the presenters have made a big deal about certain skaters taking that move on, but because Ray is so good there was little reference to it. It's naughty that when you think about it...

Colleen's up next and after another injury this week, it's been hard going. She pulled her back during flying training and is experiencing regular spasms (that's on top of her wrenched wrist) - It's not going well for her really is it? Poor thing...

After numerous physiotherapy sessions and a return to hospital, she crossed her fingers and was finally given the all clear to skate two days ago. She's in a lot of pain and has not had nearly as much time to train as the others, but all she wanted to do was skate tonight.

    Coleen Nolan

Again, her performance can't really be compared to the other skaters but she's trying her best and managed to complete her routine. They dance to Still The One by Celine Dion and although I've lost count of how many times she waves her arms, it's a simple but touching performance - My heart goes out to her. I think she knows this may be her last week.

There's a spiral and a teapot... Not enough content fo me guys - Sorry Colleen fans.

    Just 16.5 points
I think the judges are trying to send a message.

Colleen says, "I wasn't worried about the scores tonight, I just wanted to come out and skate - that was my wedding song you see". Her husband is in tears, he knows how hard this week has been. She thanks Stuart and her physio and then Jayne Torvill commends her for her bravery. It's all a bit gooey really... Are we watching The Colleen Show?

Nicky says, "We can all see that you are not doing as much as the other skaters. My heart applaudes you, but my head says it's time for you to leave. The only thing to keep you in would be the John Sergeant factor." Ouch! True though...

Jason isn't at all happy with Colleen's performance and says that he counted twelve Portabra (arm flails). "It's all the same thing..."

I can't understand how Jason is scoring?
He gave the same mark for Donal as he did for Colleen, Donal's performance had so much more content.

Holly cuts Jason off before he can continue, which I don't think is necessarily fair. Donal received his full critique from Jason.

Jessica performs to Why by Annie Lennox and I hope she can make it through, she's been sick with worry about the solo.

    Watching...

    Jessica Taylor

She needn't have worried - I thought it was a fabulous skate, so touching. There's a high cantilever and then a low cantilever lift (which is so difficult for an amateur) and her solo was emotional and well acted - I loved the spiral, it was almost like she was floating.

Jessica is happy that she pulled off her solo, "That is the most petrifying thing I've ever done". Pavel is overjoyed and gushing with pride. "I think she really enjoyed it. She stepped into it and did it so well".

26.5 points with three 5.5's, well deserved.

Ruthie says, "The girl can sing, the girl can dance and now the girl can act. I think you''ve just booked your place in the final!" She did have great face didn't she?

What a great show, I can't wait for the final now!
How on earth are the skaters going to choose their favourite performance for next week? ...and then we have the flying and Bolero! What on earth is Ray gonna come up with?

See you back here for the skate-off...

    THE SKATE OFF

Are we actually going get a fair result or is all hell about to break loose?

Robin Cousins tells Holly that his favourite solo spot was from Ray. "It was his pair work tonight that was the problem".

Jason says that there are two fantastic skaters from tonight who should go through, "and one who definitely shouldn't". Errm... Wonder who that could be? Jason hopes that the British public have made the right decision this week.

Through to next week's final are:

Jessica & Pavel (She bursts into tears, bless her)
    Ray & Maria (He's overjoyed!)

Finally we have a fair decision.

Colleen says, "I never thought I would ever make it to the semi-finals, so all of this has been great". Donal tells Holly, "I want to dance Bolero".

Colleen and Donal take to the ice and they both manage to improve on their earlier efforts. As far as content goes, it's Donal all the way - There's no contest. I think Colleen is an absolute star, but it's her time to go and I'm glad it's now rather than later... I think she'd have taken some real flack if she'd have made the final. It would have been the whole John Sergeant fiasco times ten.

Colleen is humble in defeat (and the judges haven't even voted yet). "I've had a great time... (Phil points out that she's not out yet) - Oh I am so out. I'm so out of the competition, I am so out. We shouldn't waste time really, just bring on the flowers". The crowd cheer.

I've no doubt that the judges will do the right thing... It's a clean sweep.

Colleen Nolan leaves the competition tonight.

"I'll look back on this as the best thing I've ever done. I couldn't have done it without the four coaches, my partner Stuart who is now my best friend and my family". Stuart wells up and Colleen's daughter is in tears in the audience, but her husband cheers her on...

I'm glad you came so far Colleen, it just shows how much your public loves you.

So now it's time for the 6 Million Dollar question.
Who should win Dancing On Ice 2009?

...and what performance would you like to see again from the three finalists?

    Ray's Loving the Latina!

This week Ray's portraying a latin lover, as both he and Maria perform a Merengue with some super-fancy footwork and showstopping lifts!

    Ray Quinn - ITV/Rex Features

Ray told ITV, "I can't wait for the semi-final. Who'd have thought [a few months ago] that I'd be here still dancing with Maria. She's such an amazing partner to have and if I had to pick, I would have chosen her."

After spending so much time with Maria, Ray's even started taking up some of her Bulgarian traditions. "On the 1st of March every year, the Bulgarians tie a band to their wrist [like this] and it's for luck and good things to happen. They only take it off when they see a certain bird and then tie it to the tree they see it on."

Ray is wearing his Bulgarian band beside his watch during training. Keep an eye out for it during the LIVE show, I wonder if Health & Safety will make him take it off? Fingers crossed he can keep it on and keep hold of his luck at the same time? We don't want any tumbles that's for sure...

I don't know about you, but I'm just looking forward to the flying - Bring it on!

    Another Injury For Colleen

It's been reported that Colleen Nolan has yet another injury on top of her damaged wrist.

Colleen told ITV, "I'm not good. We were practising the flying and I was having a very good time, and then something snapped in my back. It's a sprained rib and it's all gone into muscle spasm. I'm lying on a treatment table, hooked up to some machines.”

Fortunately there are no broken bones, but with an accumulation of injuries the producers are discussing Colleen's future on the show.

An ITV spokeswoman said: "Coleen Nolan was taken to hospital on Monday night after suffering pains in her back during rehearsals for the flying routine. Coleen has sprained her rib and lower back and was given painkillers. She is receiving treatment from the show's physio and will rest on Wednesday before a decision is made as to whether she will be fit enough to take part in Sunday’s show."

Fingers crossed she'll be able to bounce back and perform, just like she did last week. She's a battler after all!

    SHOW STARTS:

So who will make it through to the semi-finals?
...and who'll be getting the cold shoulder?

Tonight's required element is an unassisted jump. Each celebrity must leave the ice completely and land smoothly, all without the security of their professional partner - By far the most challenging of the required elements so far.

Wow! From the look of rehearsals, Ray Quinn is going to do the splits mid air. If you're a skating fan you'll know the move as the Russian Split Jump, it used to be a signature move of Robin Cousins and if you're a TV buff, then think Leroy in Fame! All I can say is that Chris Dean really wants to challenge this boy and see what he's capable of. If he can pull this jump off it will be showstopping. Just landing it will be a miracle for an amateur. I mean, imagine if he falls - Does this young man want to have children? I hope he has his jewels insured!

Judge Robin Cousins is looking for "time in the air" and some "sharp, dynamic movement on the ice" - Most importantly though, he wants a polished overall routine.

As the skaters take to the ice, it's great to see Colleen Nolan. She was rumoured to have a fractured wrist, so I'm guessing that it just wasn't that bad (well she's hanging off Stuart like a little monkey, so I guess she's fit enought to skate!)

So onto the ice and up first we have... Jessica Taylor

I have to hand it to Jess this week. You would think that last week's fall would have knocked her confidence, but she's still attempting one of the hardest lifts of the series. Tonight Pavel will be raising her ten feet in the air as they try to execute a tabletop!

The pair perform to Mercy and it's a cracking routine, full of pep. There's no problem with the required element, she's leaping on and off the ice like a woman possessed! Hang on, now she's upside down and only holding on to Pavel's waist and there, there's the tabletop - That's an impressive lift. Job done!

     Jessica Taylor and Pavel Aubrecht

5's and 5.5's across the board - 26 points in all.

Judge Jason Gardiner is overjoyed, "You listened to me and it paid off. You had the attitude, you were cheeky and the choreography was on point. The lifts were all in place. It was strong, sexy and captivating - Thank God!" Nicky Slater thought she was close to a 6. "You covered the ice with speed and confidence, but you didn't quite make the loop here in front of me. It was a super performance."

Next up is Donal and I'm looking forward to seeing what he comes up with - He's quite inventive with his moves don't you think?

Florentine and a very trim Mr Macintyre dance to Let's Stick Together and there's a car, the required unassisted jump (followed by 360 degree turns) and a shoulder hold with roll finish. The skating is fast and down into the ice and I'm impressed. Donal is improving each week and to think he worked on that half axel alone in training... It's a shame the nerves got to him as he was about to jump.

    Donal MacIntyre and Florentine Houdineirre

22 points and I think from his face, Donal was hoping for more. He looked really pleased with the routine at the end and even I thought the scores would be better.

Chris & Jayne commend Donal as he's the best at landing his partner. During the shoulder hold their was a slight wobble and he was quick to gently lower Florie safely.

Judge Karen Barber thought he tried hard, "The half axel ended up as a three turn, but it was a good attempt." Jason Gardiner advised him to back off a little with regards to his stare, "sometimes you can look like a serial killer. There was great intensity there and he jump was great (even though the landing was a bit all over the place), but overall it was much better."

I feel quite sorry for Zoe this week... It must be hard to get your first 6 and then end up in the ruddy skate off.

...and if her confidence wasn't knocked enough, she ended up in tears in rehearsals thanks to a couple of trips and slips. I just hope she can pull it together.

    Zoe Salmon and Matt Evers

Matt and Zoe skate to Run by Leona Lewis and it's a romantic and touching performance. There's such anguish on her face, she's acting it well... There's an aeroplane spin, the unassisted three jump and a back roll up into overhead spin to finish. What I liked about the performance was the vunerability. There was one tiny trip and you could see Matt turn to her and make sure she was okay - They have a great rapport.

I agree with Robin, "For this routine you need the emotion all the way through and there were times when it was glorious, but there were times when I saw nerves and not emotion."

    23.5 points

Colleen's up next and it's a miracle she's on the ice this week. She had a terrible fall during training and landed on her wrist - Ouch! Fortunately nothing shows up on the X-Ray, but due to the pain she's in the physio's concerned it may be a hairline crack. With that in mind she says, Colleen will be re-X-rayed next week to see if there's a fracture."

    Coleen Nolan and Stuart Widdall

The pair perform to Diamonds Are Forever and it's an intense yet demure routine. Even with her injury, Colleen manages the required jump (though it's assisted). There are two lunges, a spiral, a necklace spin and some solo skating too. I think it was her best, but I still think it's her time. I'm not sure it's enough for the voters at home, even if she is trying to go it alone.

    There's a 4 from Ruthie and Jason!
    18.5 in all.

"Woohoo! I was aiming for a three with Jason. I'm so pleased with those scores."

Robin agrees that it was her best performance to date. "You really tried and it was much better." Jason says, "Good girl Colleen. I've been waiting for a performance like that from you! There was some beautiful postions out there and I applaude you for trying the lifts that you did tonight." I agree, it was by far her best as she finally skated solo. I mean in all honesty, it's like she's been glued to poor Stewart and the whole point of the show is learning to skate. In previous weeks she's done more solo skating during rehearsals than in her routine. We want to see you skate Colleen and now we are... Sadly, I can't compare you to the others - So I think it's time for you to go.

When Ray Quinn sees an example of the Russian Split Jump, his exact words are "F***ing Hell!" He cannot believe that that's what Chris Dean wants him to do - Jayne Torvill describes it as "HUGE" and I'm on shock that he's even going to attempt it.

The pair dance to Use Somebody and (if I'm honest) the routine is a beautiful blur as I wait with my heart in my throat for the split jump... This could all go horribly wrong right here...

    Ray Quinn and Maria Filippov

    HE'S DONE IT!

Both he and Maria dance their hearts out. There's a divine developpe, then knee slides and a spin before the Russian Split Jump. He's even thrown in another 360 jump straight after! Is there nothing this guy can do? Chris Dean looks so proud, "The audience were with you all of the way."

A 6 from Ruthie and 5.5's across the board! 28 points.

Ray is chuffed to get another 6, but happier that he made 'that' jump. Phil asks if he was nervous about doing it infront of Robin. "Of course! He's a God isn't he really, let's be honest. I'm so pleased that I did it, it's a great achievement for me that. Robin is great at it and I've been watching him do it over and over on You Tube all week going, wow!"

Judge Robin Cousins made the Russian Split Jump what it is and Ray is overjoyed to hear him say, "It was great!" Robin adds that it was just a shame he was worrying about the jump coming up and there were a couple of little fluffs in the basic skating... But he's the first to tell Ray that he's showing 'his skating' to all 'his' friends on You Tube. "It was a pleasure to watch! Your seamless partnership is sensational."

I'm sorry guys, but I just love Ray.
I know some of you think it comes easily to him, but I've watched so many rehearsals - I can honestly say that he works so hard. Ray, Ray - all the way!

See you back here for the skate-off.

NOTE TO SELF: I have one of those weird feelings in the pit of my stomach and it's telling me that (due to her injury) Colleen may make it through tonight. Sadly, that means one of the more talented skaters could go. Will someone fall foul to the old sympathy vote?

    THE SKATE OFF:

Judge Robin Cousins thinks that it should be Colleen who leaves tonight... "It was her best performance and if you're going to go out, that's the way to do it."

    The votes are in:

    Through to the semi-finals are...

    Ray and Maria
    Donal and Florentine
    and...
    Colleen and Stuart!

Can you believe that? I can't!
    Leave your comments...

The crowd go wild and I'm sorry but there's something wrong here. What are the public thinking? This result means that we will definitely lose Zoe or Jessica tonight and that is a travesty. After last eek I'm not sure if Zoe has the public behind her, but Jessica has had her highest score of the series tonight - It's unfair.

Here we go... All previous mistakes are forgiven and forgotten and the judges MUST make their decision on THIS skate alone. I have to say, If it was down to me I'd be sending home Zoe. I just think Jessica's the better skater, period - Zoe's still too static and all the arms are a bit strange.

Jess: She looked like she really enjoyed herself, there were no nerves and she nailed the required element and tabletop lift.
Zoe: Regardless of my views, it was a great skate. Far more emotional than her previous effort.

Jess is saved. The judges, unhappy about the choice before them, describe her as skillful and faster on the ice. Ruthie is the only judge to vote Zoe and Judge Jason Gardiner is disgusted that "it's now a popularity contest." It's a pop at the voting public's decision to save Coleen Nolan but there's nothing he can do about it this week.

Zoe Salmon leaves the competition tonight.

Zoe commends Jessica and agrees that she was the better skater. She says she can't wait for the tour as she can't imagine not skating every week, "I love it so much!"

Matt Evers is a little choked and admits that he's emotional, "It's been great working with Zoe, she's wonderful."

So here's the 6 million dollar question guys...
Do you think the right celebrity left tonight?

    The Professional Skaters Strip!

Remember last Sunday's Raining Men routine?
Remember the fantastic finish when it actually rained inside the rink?

Now imagine that same very wet routine, but all of the hunky male skaters strip throughout the final chorus - Nice thought eh?!

Well, you heard it here first people...
ALL of the professional male skaters had originally rehearsed that routine topless!

The idea was to wear their raincoats for the first half of the set and then as the routine came to a climax, they ripped them off to reveal their bulging fabulousness! WOWSERS!
Unfortunately for us, it was thought to be 'too camp' so it was scrapped for the version we witnessed on Sunday (Boo!)

I have to say though, wouldn't it be great if there was a photo from those rehearsals?
..and wouldn't it be even better if I had managed to aquire it for all of you drooling ladies?

(Sorry guys, there will be some eye candy coming for you soon too!)

Well, you know how I don't like to let you down...

    So here it is!

A one off group strip from Fred, Stuart, Dan, Pavel and Matt!

Great eh? I think they should redo the routine like this for the semi-finals and I'm not the only one, the female skaters and Judge Karen Barber agree with me.
Bring on the naked skating - Woohoo!

    Was Ray at a Disadvantage?

Mmmm... I've been thinking about Ray's performance on Sunday and having watched the VT back a few times, I'm wondering whether he was at a disadvantage.

Now before I get a zillion comments saying how Ray was at an advantage all along because of his skating experience (and all that codswallop), I'm not talking about the skating here - I'm talking props.

    Ray Quinn and Maria Filippov

Think about it... All the other props could be used in a variety of ways as an integral part of the skater's routine - You can use the cane, the umbrella, the brush, the boa and the chair to complete any stunt or trick. You can sit or balance on them, swing from them, jump over them, spin on them, be cradled by them and led by them... The list goes on and on.

But as far as Ray's prop goes, you could flip it up onto your head, throw it to each other or wear it - That's about it! PLUS the fact that it was the only wearable prop that could be seen to be back-to-front, giving the judges yet another reason to mark him down.

I just don't think it's very fair, I mean it's no wonder he admitted to over-analysing the whole thing. My head would be up somewhere near yesterday's lunch wondering what I was going to do with that blasted hat!
Burn it Ray, that's what I say - BURN IT!

I guess I shouldn't complain, at least he made it through.
I mean, I'd have had plenty more to write about if he'd ended up in the skate-off. Colleen would be first on my list for one...

Maybe next week eh? We'll see if she makes it through again.

    A Right Dressing Down...

    What can I say?

I know it's taken a little longer to answer your questions this week, but let's just say I had to do a little digging!

For all of my readers who have emailed and left comments about Jayne Torvill's wardrobe, last week's gown was from Karen Millen and this week's dress was from Herve Leger.

I told you I'd get there in the end didn't I?
Hope that makes you smile frock fans!

    Live Blog - Prop Week

    So it's prop week people...
How do you think they'll fair?
I just know it's going to be carnage don't you?

    SHOW STARTS:

Tonight's required element is to use a prop.

Here's the props that Jayne and Chris selected for each victim (ahem), I mean celebrity:

    Ray has the hat
    Colleen has the boa
    Roxy has the chair
    Donal has the broom
    Zoe has the cane
    Jess has the umbrella

WOW! I really want to see that again. Jayne and Chris have just performed a cracking routine to The Weather Girls, It's Raining Men and it actually rained across the rink! There were some great tricks too; did you see Dan's spin? He's a firecracker that one, it's always the quiet ones you know...

Anyway, back to the ice... Eeee, I can't wait for tonight's performances you know - I really am excited to see what they come up with.

Up first is... Roxy and I'm sorry but how funny is Chris Dean? I just love him.

Roxy has the chair this week and she finds it hard to perform some sexy moves, so Chris steps in and shows her how it's done! He's spreading his legs and wiggling his tooshie like a pro! The saucy start to Roxy's routine is ALL Chris Dean - What a guy.

The pair perform to Don'tcha by the Pussycat Dolls and it's an accomplished performance. You can really see she's enjoying herself and she's acting the song too - I guess Chris Dean's tuition worked wonders! There's a necklace spin, an Isle of Man rotation using the prop and a chair to float spin.

The most impressive moment was when Dan spun the chair across the ice and Roxy had to lay out, turn over, change position and present whilst spinning - Then she had to turn out her foot for Dan to pull her off the chair and continue spinning into the float. They made it look simple...

    Roxanne Pallett and Daniel Whiston

21 well earned points and Robin Cousins is happy to finally see the 'real' Roxanne. "You worked well with the prop and it was nice to see 'you' - For the first time, a total package." I have to laugh when Ruthie starts her critique and Roxy calls her Karen - Just a little dig after last week, but Ruthie's surprisingly impressed. "It wasn't wooden like your chair. You just need to engage with Dan more now."

It's time for our Ray of sunshine!

Ray had the hat to play with this week and he's annoyed in training that he can't throw it for Maria to catch. He hates the damn hat poor guy.

    Ray Quinn and Maria Filippov

They perform to Have You Met Miss Jones and I'm surprised to see a very nervous Ray Quinn tonight. I don't know if the whole 'prop' thing has thrown him but he trips! Thankfully he manages to pull it together and the second half of the routine is top notch. He really looks the part too, straight from the rat pack.

There are two drags, straight line steps and a roll up, the lifts are fantastic too but it's just not a 'Ray' performance. Maria doesn't manage to catch the blasted hat either...

Ray hugs Maria at the end and over her shoulder, you can see that he is absolutely gutted. For that split second we can peek into his head but he takes a deep breath and it's back on with the Ray smile!

    26 points

Jason gave just a 4.5 and was very disappointed. "I expected you of all people to come out and excel at that, but I was disappointed. Your hat was on backwards most of the time and you were cutting tricks short - Your hat roll ups were not clean and there were a lot of things you were fluffing." Ray admits that he was nervous and throws the hat away. "I hate that hat, hate it."

Maria agrees that the nerves got to him a little...

Judges Karen Barber and Robin Cousins disagree with Jason as they gave 5.5. Karen says there were a few mistakes but the skating was faultless and Robin docked points only for the trip and the loss of hat. "The presentation was fantastic again!" - Nuff said - I have to agree with Jason I'm afraid. I was expecting Ray to bat that out of the park.

Jess is hoping to avoid the skate off after last week and I have to admit, I was shocked to see her there. It seems to have knocked her confidence too as she feels she's 'unpopular' and that's "not a nice feeling".

Both Pavel and Jess dance to Umbrella by Rihanna and guess what prop they have? There's an umbrella cradle, a spiral, three-turns, a Mary Poppin's moment (an impressive counterbalance with open brolly) and a kiss spin (via umbrella hold) - the prop is beautifully incorporated.

     Jessica Taylor and Pavel Aubrecht

Jessica looks fantastic in bacofoil too doesn't she?

They complete the routine and Jessica looks over the moon. She's really starting to grow on me you know, you can see this means a lot to her and she's not as cold as she first appeared. Thanks to the judges asking for more of 'her' we're starting to see her personality shine and she's a lovely girl.

    23.5 points

The judges are impressed by Jessica's skating skills but they're concerned that the pair didn't use the umbrella as much as they could have. Nicky was looking for the magic moment he got from Duncan James. "He told a story with the umbrella, I was hoping for that." Robin Cousins is worried about what she's doing with her spare hand. "You have to be careful; there were a few banana moments. You're concentrating on Pavel or your lift and this hand is doing something else." At least that wasn't as bad as Judge Jason Gardiner, "Even though you had the umbrella it was a very 'wet' performance." What? He's talking out of his hat again people. I don't know what he was watching, but I found the routine to be both well acted and dynamic. The supervixen attitude really suits Jess - I loved it.

Jessica is just happy to have got through it, "I'm happy we didn't trip, we fell twice in rehearsals" - Bless her.

Colleen is up next and she's been trying to 'train' her boa all week... She thought she was getting the hang of it until just hours ago, when the boa wrapped around her ankle and she wiped out on the ice - Ouch!

    Coleen Nolan and Stuart Widdall

Thankfully she manages to keep it under control for her final routine but again there's virtually no solo skating. They dance to I Just Wanna Make Love To You and although there's a split lift, a roll in and out and wrap around waist spin, I'm not sure it's enough. Colleen has confidence issues on the ice and they just seem to be halting her progress - She hasn't raised her game enough and I'm not getting how the prop has been used? It's just draped around her most of the time... I've seen her solo skate more in previous weeks.

    16.5 points

Jason gives her 2.5 and calls it painful, "there was no use of the prop at all apart form wearing it." Nicky disagrees (he gave 4), "you gave it some. You were covering the ice and you used the prop - much better."

Colleen has a few words for Jason, "I'm not having a go... But it's not always about being the best, it's about trying your best and I'm doing that every week!" Jason shakes his head and advises, "I'm not marking you on how hard you try though darling. I'm giving you advice and marking you on your performance."

    Hold the front page peeps!
Is it just me or has Donal become Mr Yummy all of a sudden - Ding Dong!

Donal has the broom as his prop this week and according to Chris Dean "he's working it!" If nothing else this guy has earned his stripes, he trains hard and falls hard. Did you see the size of that bruise he has? It's the size of my head (and my head is melon-like believe me) - I'm surprised he can skate at all. Go on Donal! You have my vote tonight Mr Yummy! Meowww!

The pair dance to I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues and the routine is sincere, skillful and warm. Donal looks like he's really enjoying it and he has the acting down. It's a love story of a man dreaming of the woman he loves, but it's not to be. It reminds me of that Mr Bojangles broom routine we had from Stefan Booth in 2007. There are tandem steps over the broom, up and overs and an amazing shoulder lift to finish. Donal hangs his head on the broom handle at the end and I can't help but feel for the character he's playing - It's such a romantic performance. the blend of chemistry and skill was perfect.

    Donal MacIntyre and Florentine Houdineirre

I loved the joy on Florentine's face when the routine ended. Usually it's the celeb that's overjoyed when they've done well but she burst with emotion as they struck their final pose. They're obviously great friends now, she was so pleased for him.

    23 points and two 5's - Donal's highest score!

Donal gives 'props' to Florentine for his fantastic score and of course "my friend John-Claud the broom."

Robin Cousins loves the routine and said it was "clever" and "charming". Ruthie thought it was "gorgeous" and she adds that she genuinely looks forward to seeing Donal every week. Karen Barber is overjoyed as explains that Donal trains to the point of exhaustion, "people at home won't know that... For all your hard work, you deserved a performance like that!"

Zoe is our final performer tonight and both her and Matt give it their all to The Boy Does Nothing.

    Zoe Salmon and Matt Evers

I loved how she incorporated the cane, didn't you? There were flick jumps, a back roll up (on the cane!) and a low float spin to finish. When she completed the roll up she was twirling that cane mid air, I guess all the baton training worked eh? (See the post below for details).

    25.5 points

WOW! She has a 6 from Ruthie! "A real performance is when someone makes me 'feel' and I thought that was fantastic - I was excited by the performance and I couldn't stop smiling. You light up the ice Zoe, I loved it."

Zoe is chuffed to bits and can't believe she got a six. She reveals that she wore her gold Blue Peter badge for luck (after Phil showed her his last week) - Phil shakes his head, "Well you've upstaged me haven't you!" Zoe tries to speak she's shaking all over - "I just can't believe I got a six!"

Nicky disagrees that it was a six. "You have so much energy out there I agree, but I thought the skating was a little staccato to be honest and I thought Donal was better with the prop." Zoe nods...

See you back here for the skate off...
    Who should go tonight?
One word from me I'm afraid, Colleen.

Note to self: Donal has swallowed a sexy pill this week - YUMMO! At first I thought it was just that rough and rugged unshaven look, but then he still looked fabulous on the ice all suited and booted. Think I have a bit of a crush you know, I bet his wife is chuffed to bits - like having a new man!

    THE SKATE OFF:

Holly asks Judge Robin Cousins, who was the bottom of the pack? Robin is the first to say that "she's a lovely lady" but he admits that Colleen can no longer be compared to the others. Her skating just doesn't match up.

    The votes are in:

    Through to next week are...

    Jess and Pavel (She's overjoyed)
    Ray and Maria (He's relieved)
Colleen and Stuart (I'm not happy...)

I think Colleen deserved to be in the skate-off this week, the others totally outskated her.

Donal and Florentine are the final pair through, which mean Roxy and Zoe are in the skate off. So the only celeb to get a six tonight is in the skate off? Mmm... Does anyone else think this is REALLY wrong? What are the voting public thinking? If anything it's a shame for Roxy, she did so well with her chair performance. It's a terrible way to go out this, especially when her routine was one of her best.

Considering Zoe got a six, I think it could be last orders for Roxy and she'll be heading for The Woolpack quick-smart - But we shall have to see... It's all down to the skate-off after all.

Don't forget, the judges must judge this final performance alone and nothing else. If a skater falls, it's pretty much game over.

Roxy improves her last performance by creating more of a connection with Dan (on the judges request). "I wanted to do what the judges asked for, incase it was the last time."

Zoe throws everything into her second go (as it's all or nothing) - I have to say, I think she'd have to fall to go out. Zoe is a great team player, "Who knows who the judges will choose. I thought that Roxy was fantastic."

Judge Jason Gardiner says it's the closest skate-off ever and Robin Cousins adds, "Roxanne, you're leaving having given your best performance."

It's a clean sweep, Zoe goes through...

Roxanne Pallett leaves the competition tonight.

"I couldn't have done it without Dan and I've loved being here. I can't believe I can skate, I couldn't even stand up a few weeks ago. The people who worked with me and worked on this show are all brilliant, I just can't wait for the tour."

Zoe is happy, but visibly upset and although she's smiling through, Roxy is gutted - neither of them should have been in the skate-off tonight. At least she went out with a bang!

Do you think it was a fair result?

    Training Time...

Even though ITV are keeping the prop selections under wraps, it doesn't take a lot to guess which one Zoe Salmon has?

Put it this way, she attended a baton twirling class this week so my money's on the canes...

    Zoe Salmon - Rex Features/ITV

...and Donal has the make or break prop, the broom!

    - I mean it worked wonders for Stefan Booth in 2007, his Mr Bojangles routine was legendary as it had so much warmth. They managed to tell a story using the prop (that's the point you see).

Unfortunately for Greg Rusedski the broom had the opposite effect the following year and his routine did little for the voters at home. Then again, he did have a rather large table to contend with too! Whatever colour you try and paint it, he was out on his ear shortly after...
Donal seems to be taking it all in his stride, although he is a little nervous. He told ITV, "It's a third party, an added complication to our dancing... I was just getting the hang of it on my own!"

I wonder how they'll fair on Sunday?
I can't wait for the show this week - I'm dying to know what Ray's going to do.

Join me here for the Live Blog when the show starts. I'm looking forward to hearing your opinion on each performance.

    The Dreaded Prop Week

That's right folks, this Sunday hails the return of the 'evil' that is Prop Week!

Remember Greg Rusedski's head gushing with blood last year? No, well that was all thanks to a rather large table that he had to skate with - Sounds crazy I know, but surprisingly true!

Dancing On Ice 2008 - ITV Pictures

Obviously ITV are keeping who gets what strictly under wraps, but this week each celeb will have to skate with either a broom, a table, a chair, a hat or cane, an umbrella or the dreaded suitcase. How can anyone perform any move that is close to glamorous with that thing?

The irony is that in the last two years whoever landed the case ended up in the final! Maybe it's a super-case with magical powers eh? We shall have to wait and see...

I know a lot of people don't enjoy prop week, but I happen to love it. It's a real challenge for the contestants and great TV. I think the only downer is that some 'props' have already been used this year to add interest to Melinda and Coleen's performances - I'm not sure that should have been allowed.

Anyway... If nothing else it's always gets the celebs knees quivering (and not in a good way!)

As Phillip Schofield said last year,
    "Prop Week is always carnage!"

    Let battle commence!

    Melinda's Goodbye...

Melinda may be out of the competition, but she'll be keeping her skates on for the time being... She told ITV that she'll continue skating but won't have to worry so much about her feet!

    Melinda Messenger - ITV

"We're gonna miss it aren't we? We did have fun."

    And what about Jason's comments...?

"Overall, I'd say they were really positive. Everything he said (to be honest) was kind of true, but there was always something positive in it."

What are your Dancing On Ice highlights?

"The macarena (she laughs) No... My favourite thing was, I think it was week two when we got to dance to that beautiful slow song... We really got to enjoy it and enjoy the moment. It was beautiful. Oh and the lifts... The Detroiter and this weeks lift (Fred agrees that his favourite week was this week) - Yes well isn't that nice, that we both enjoyed the last week. That way we go out on a high!"

"I'll definitely keep skating. The good thing is that I don't have to worry or be nervous, I'll be back at Slough bashing about.."

...and there's always the tour Mel, let's not forget about that!

    February 22

    Live Blog - 7 Become 6

    SHOW STARTS:

The show begins with a performance from Will Young (haven't seen him in a while)... Jayne and Chris perform a beautiful routine, I especially like the pick spin - These two never disappoint.

I have to say, is it just me or does Jayne Torvill seem to look better each week?

So who do you think should leave tonight?
Click 'add a comment' below to let me know.

Tonight's required element is a sequence. All of the skaters must perform a Spiral and a Drag, followed by an Ina Bauer (two parallel blades) and then a stop (using their edges). Torvill and Dean have really stepped things up, just to see who has been paying attention!

The judges are looking for technique tonight, Judge Robin Cousins says simply "Game on!"

    So who's up first?
It's Zoe Salmon... After her injury hindered her performance last week, Zoe is keen to get that sparkle back. She's chuffed to bits to hear that her music is Mamma Mia and visits the cast for some dance tips...

In black and gold spandex with bell bottom flares, both Zoe and Matt look the part that's for sure. She's a little tentative at the start, but the old Zoe is back by the fourth note when Matt zips through her legs by sliding on the ice.. She completes the required elements and is confident performing the lifts.

    Zoe Salmon and Matt Evers

She scored 22 last week and knocks that out of the park with a 23.5 - Wow, her best score yet and she's overjoyed to see 5's.

Jason says, "That was a really good opening to the show. There was that drama and tension at the start and then you blossomed." Robin disagreed (he gave a 4) - "The skating was good but not great." He encourages her not to "cheat" on her barrel rolls and crossovers by not completing the move... "The feet have to cross over, don't go for all the tricks at the expense of your basic skating - Those moves have been perfect in previous weeks."

Zoe nods her head and concedes that she knows what Robin is saying, she's obviously ben cutting a few corners and hoping nobody will notice.

Melinda's up next, scroll down to read all about her training session with Ricky Hatton.

Melinda and Fred perform to Let's Hear it for the Boy and it's an uplifting routine in which she really seems to bloom. I'm impressed with her speed over the ice, she's no way near as scratchy as she was before. She completes all four required elements, there's a run and swing followed by a one handed drape spin (which is amazing - what balance!)

    Melinda Messenger and Fred Palascak

She scores just 18.5 for that and I think she deserved more. Just that final lift alone deserved a 4! She's really raised her game.

I think Nicky Slater watched a different performance to me??? He loves her presentation but wants her to work on her basic skating. I thought that there was a huge leap in her technique tonight, didn't you?

Jason is tactful as always (not!)
"You need to work on your leg lines for me, simple as that... When you leave the ice especially, it's almost prosthetic!" Ouch!

I really hope that Donal can show some emotion tonight. The judges keep harping on about wanting 'the showman', so fingers crossed Torvill and Dean can squeeze something out of him. I mean the pair are dancing to Everybody Hurts by REM, it doesn't get much more emotional than that.

Wow... What a touching performance. It really showed off Donal's excellent skating skills, he has the basics down there's no doubt. I'm gutted when they embrace in the middle of the skate and there's a trip, it's such a shame and Donal is obviously unnerved (and furious!) I feel so sorry for them. Phew - The good news is that (regardless of the stumble) he remains in character and continues with elegance and grace right to the end... Yes, you heard me; elegance and grace - I can't believe I'm saying it either!

    Donal MacIntyre and Florentine Houdineirre

All of the required elements looked simple and he didn't even flinch when he dipped into the symmetrical teapot. Beautiful skating...

17 points - The judge's scores reflect the trip and that's unfair as the comments are good. Jason commends the fact that he stayed in character, "In previous weeks you would never have come back from that and sustained the performance like you did." Ruthie agrees, "Even thought you fell, the way you performed was just beautiful. For how you were at the start, I think you've come so far..." Nicky says "It's all about how you present your partner, like Chris presents Jayne. You presented Florentine beautifully and without those few mistakes, my mark would have been different." It seems that all of the judges feel for Donal - It had the potential to be a showstopper.

Phil Schofield is the first to say that Donal's routine was flawless in rehearsals and I believe him. Without the trip it would have been a whole different story. I know it sounds strange, but I'd like to see him in the skate off - just so I can see the complete (and perfect) routine.

Poor Roxy... She's had such a hard time from the judges; it's obviously starting to get to her. Her scores still aren't improving so she's pulling out all of the stops and having another go at the dreaded headbanger!

I'm not sure if you remember, but she attempted it two weeks ago and Dan had to change it into a Float as her foot landed incorrectly in his hand and it was too dangerous to complete.

The pair perform to I Wanna Be Loved By You and Roxanne looks the part in a Marilyn Monroe style gown (with plenty of pouty lips). They complete their required elements along with a reverse crucifix into a layout. From Dan's back Roxy kicks out like a showgirl and then it's back to the ice for the headbanger - no problems this time, though the landing looked like it grated her shoulder. She holds her final pose and smiles like a pro.

    Roxanne Pallett and Daniel Whiston

She receives her highest score of 19, but the judge's comments are surprising. Ruthie is cutting and tells Roxy "You do nothing for me Zoe!" Holly asks her to elaborate and she adds that she always ends up watching Dan and not Roxy, "because your performance is forced at times and Dan is so good. I'm obviously in the minority though because you're getting the votes."

My chin hits the floor when Jason jumps to Roxy's defence (Yes I said Jason, the man who's made her skating life a misery!) - "I disagree, I know we've had our differences Roxy but I thought that was a much better performance. Your lines have improved and you looked like you enjoyed it and I loved that!" Roxy fakes wiping her brow and smiles - I think she's won Jason over don't you? She just has to work on Ruthie now... maybe it would help if Ruthie knew her name? It's Roxanne Ruthie, ROXANNE!

Jessica Taylor had a rough time last week, so it was nice to see her receive a good luck message from husband Kevin Pieterson (even if it did make her blub). It's a change of pace for her this week as she's performing to Unbreak My Heart and Pavel can't wait to get training...

One word... Stunning! Their performance is graceful and elegant as well as complex - and how beautiful were those costumes? She skates the required elements alone and the only hitch is when Pavel misses her legs during their cantilever hold, other than that it's a great skate. No foot faults.

     Jessica Taylor and Pavel Aubrecht

The scores reflect Jessica's lone skate and she lands her highest mark - 24.5

Karen says it was beautiful and Jason thought it was sincere, "I was swept along." He advises her to work on her positions when she's in hold. "When you get there don't just stop and think you don't have to do anymore - Let the movement grow and develop." Fair point, she can be a little static.

CAN RAY GET FIVE SIXES AGAIN?

I think he can you know...

Ray is concerned in training as they are rehearsing Torvill and Dean's classic Barnum steps. This involves Maria swinger her feet in circles under Ray's blades while he changes from one foot to another. Ray says, "It's so hard, if I step wrong I'm stepping on her feet. i don't want to injure her, that's what's bothering me. She's putting all of her trust in me and I've got blades on my feet, not teddy bears like; so it's a bit scary." LOL! You've just gotta love him.

    Ray Quinn and Maria Filippov

Ray and Maria dance to Rock Around the Clock and not only does he perform the required elements alone (like Jess) he mirrors Maria too. Ray looks like he's just swaggered out of the local sock-hop and he was born to wear an Elvis quiff. The routine is jam packed and there are more rock and roll toe steps and flips than you can shake a stick at. Honestly, you wouldn't think this guy was on ice - It was fantastic!

    Four sixes!
It's only Jason who awards a 5.5 (boo!)
    29.5 in total.

Ray is overjoyed! "Woo! I'm so happy." Phil asks if he's disappointed not to get 'all' sixes, "No, it wasn't about that for me. Last week was brilliant and a great memory, but it wasn't about keeping it up and getting all sixes. I just want ot try my best."

Chris Dean is obviously proud of his paramore. "The thing about Ray is when he's on the ice it all looks so free, but he's really in control and can combine the two. Well done!"

Judge Robin is the first to point out that the sixes are not just for Ray but for Maria too. "These scores are for a fantastic partnership that is magnificent. She allows you to stay true to yourself and you allow her to do the same using your feet to make her feel comfortable. You are both beautiful to watch!"

    Can you believe that

Mmmm... I think it could be Colleen's week you know.

Don't get me wrong, I love her and I think her skating has improved but she reminds me of Linda Lusardi a few year back. There's no solo skating to speak of and she's assisted by Stuart throughout. The dance elements are beautiful, but I agree with the judges that there's not enough content (considering we're half way through the series).

    Coleen Nolan and Stuart Widdall

Colleen and Stuart perform to the Shoop Shoop Song and although it's a fun routine, it's still tentative. She completes the required elements (with Stuart) and they finish with a roll up.

    16.5 points

Colleen smiles and says she's pleased with her score. She's out of breath and quips, "I've worked for that score. Can I just say thank you for making me go after Ray Quinn! They obviously ran out of sixes when it came to me." What a character! Phil says she's obviously been on an emotional rollercoaster this week and Colleen nods - "You don't know the half of it. I've booked a nervous breakdown - I've earned it!"

Sadly, the judges are not as impressed as she is. Karen seems to be angered by her defeatist attitude, "We believe that you can do it, but you have to believe that you can do it!" Jason admits that it was better and 'cute' but it's not a performance that can be compared to the other skaters as far as the marks go. "You have to do something with the moves. The cartwheel at the beginning, you looked like a gingerbread man."

Ruthie takes the opportunity to apologise to Roxy for calling her Zoe. "It was nothing personal."
Roxy doesn't look convinced to me...

See you back here for the skate off...

Should Ruthie have dismissed Roxy in such a way?
Should Jason have given Ray a 6?
    Was Colleen tentative again?
... and who do you think should leave tonight?

Whether you agree with me or not, I want to hear what you have to say about the performances...

    THE SKATE OFF:

Lines are now closed, through to next week are:

    Colleen and Stuart (I'm shocked!)
    Zoe and Matt
    Ray and Maria
    Donal and Florentine

I think it will be Roxy and Mel...

No way, Roxy and Dan are through to next week and Jessica and Pavel are in the skate off with Melinda! What on earth are the public thinking, Jessica scored 24.5 tonight?

The judges all thought the best performances came from Zoe and Jessica, so it's not looking good for Melinda. Backstage she says she just wants to have fun during her fourth skate off, "I'm getting used to them and I'm going to enjoy it, even if it's my last one."

Both Melinda and Jessica improve on their previous performances, but Jessica and Pavel nail the cantilever lift that Pavel missed earlier. It's a showstopping emotional performance and I think they've done enough. Let's be honest, they shouldn't have been there in the first place!

The judges all agree that if it was a personality contest, Melinda would win hands down - but it's not. It's a clean sweep and Judge Robin Cousins ends by saying "There was no comparison. I save Jessica."

Melinda Messenger leaves the competition tonight.

Do you think Melinda should have been out this week?
I thought Colleen's skate had far less content.
